The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties, also known as CPARC, is a haven for individuals with intellectual disabilities. It provides a secure environment for these individuals to reside and offers services that foster their growth. As one of the individuals they support, Bryan, puts it, “CPARC helps us grow and grow and grow, like a flower.”

Decades ago, the only option for parents with a child with a disability was to place them in a state institution. These institutions were the only available settings for people with disabilities. However, a group of concerned parents sought to change this in 1953. They established CPARC as an alternative to institutionalization for their children with special needs.

The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC) has a mission that goes beyond providing a safe place for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It aims to empower, inspire, and educate these individuals, their families, and the broader community. As one mother expressed, “You help people, like my son, feel self-sufficient.” CPARC’s work is a testament to its commitment to improving the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
